About
Enhance your confidence and clinical judgment in airway management with this self‑paced session designed specifically for Navajo EMS EMTs. This course focuses on building a solid foundation in airway skills, not just memorizing steps. You'll learn proper airway positioning, head‑tilt‑chin‑lift and jaw thrust techniques, and understand when positioning alone may solve a problem. We'll review the importance of suctioning – one of the most underused airway skills – and how poor suction technique can sabotage even the best plan. You'll practice bag‑valve‑mask ventilation with one‑ and two‑person techniques, and explore oxygen therapy and CPAP use (when to apply it and how to monitor patient response). Adjuncts such as oropharyngeal (OPA) and nasopharyngeal (NPA) airways are covered, along with cases that reinforce when to use them and why it's sometimes better to avoid rushing into advanced airways. After completing this activity the participant will be able to: Identify causes of respiratory distress. Describe EMS airway management strategies. Apply treatment protocols for respiratory failure. By the end of this self‑paced session, you'll be able to adapt your airway management plan on the fly, document interventions clearly, and understand the importance of ongoing reassessment during long transport times common in rural Navajo Nation EMS. Complete the video lesson and follow the instructions. CAPCE cards will be issued manually after student completion, cards are not automated. 26-GRMT-F3-0019
