26-GRMT-F3-0042 This self-paced activity is designed for EMT providers and focuses on systematic patient assessment for medical and trauma emergencies. Using case-based discussion, participants will review scene safety, scene size-up, primary assessment, recognition of immediate life threats, patient history, focused and rapid physical examinations, vital signs, reassessment, documentation, and transport decisions. Topics include mechanism of injury, nature of illness, general impression, mental status, airway, breathing, circulation, major bleeding, and patient priority. Additional content includes SAMPLE history, OPQRST, AVPU, Glasgow Coma Scale, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, skin signs, pulse oximetry, blood glucose when indicated, pain assessment, DCAP-BTLS, rapid trauma assessment, focused medical assessment, head-to-toe examination, reassessment intervals, communication, and documentation. Participants will also review how assessment findings guide immediate basic life support care, requests for additional resources, destination selection, and clear communication with responding personnel and receiving facilities throughout patient care. Learning Objectives At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to: Perform an organized scene size-up and primary assessment Recognize airway, breathing, circulation, bleeding, and mental-status emergencies Obtain a SAMPLE history, use OPQRST, and complete an appropriate physical examination Interpret vital signs, determine transport priority, reassess the patient, and document findings Completion Requirements • Complete the full course • Pass the post-test with a score of 80% or higher • Complete the course evaluation Certificate Information: CAPCE credit
