WVFD Trauma Essentials

26-GRMT-F3-0046 This self-paced activity is designed for paramedic providers and focuses on advanced trauma assessment and management for injured patients. Using case-based discussion, participants will review scene size-up, trauma assessment, hemorrhage control, shock recognition, stabilization, pain management, reassessment, documentation, triage, and transport decisions. Topics include mechanism of injury, trauma systems, primary assessment, major hemorrhage, airway compromise, breathing emergencies, circulation, and neurologic evaluation. Additional content includes tourniquets, wound packing, pelvic binders, chest seals, needle decompression, traumatic arrest, head and spinal trauma, thoracic injury, abdominal trauma, extremity injuries, burns, crush syndrome, amputations, hypothermia prevention, fluid resuscitation, blood products, tranexamic acid, analgesia, destination selection, and prolonged transport considerations. Participants will also review how assessment findings guide treatment priorities, hemorrhage-control methods, resuscitation strategies, requests for additional resources, destination, transport urgency, and communication with medical control, responding personnel, and receiving facilities during care. Learning Objectives At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to: Perform an organized scene size-up and primary and secondary trauma assessment Recognize life-threatening hemorrhage, shock, traumatic brain injury, and time-sensitive injuries Select and perform hemorrhage control, stabilization, resuscitation, and pain-management interventions Reassess the patient, identify complications, determine transport priority, and communicate findings Completion Requirements Complete the full course Pass the post-test with a score of 80% or higher Complete the course evaluation Certificate Information: CAPCE credit
