Navajo EMS Rural Trauma Management

This self-paced activity is designed for EMS providers and focuses on the assessment and management of trauma patients in rural and resource-limited environments. Using case-based scenarios, participants will apply evidence-based trauma care principles with emphasis on critical thinking, prioritization of life-threatening conditions, and clinical decision-making. Topics include multi-system trauma, traumatic brain injury, hemorrhagic and obstructive shock, chest trauma, crush injuries, traumatic cardiac arrest, and mass casualty incidents. The course highlights key interventions such as airway management, hemorrhage control, TXA administration, needle decompression, and fluid resuscitation, while addressing challenges related to extended transport times and limited resources. Learning Objectives At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to: • Identify life-threatening conditions in trauma patients • Apply appropriate trauma management strategies • Recognize and treat different types of shock • Perform key interventions including hemorrhage control and needle decompression • Incorporate transport and resource limitations into patient care decisions Completion Requirements • Complete the full course • Pass the post-test with a score of 80% or higher • Complete the course evaluation Certificate Information CAPCE credit will be awarded upon successful completion of all course requirements.
