WVFD Advanced Airway and Ventilation

26-GRMT-F3-0045 This self-paced activity is designed for paramedic providers and focuses on advanced airway and ventilation management for medical and trauma emergencies. Using case-based discussion, participants will review airway assessment, recognition of respiratory failure, oxygenation, ventilation, advanced airway placement, medication-assisted airway management, confirmation methods, reassessment, documentation, and transport decisions. Topics include airway anatomy, positioning, suctioning, oxygen delivery, bag-mask ventilation, airway adjuncts, supraglottic airways, endotracheal intubation, and difficult-airway planning. Additional content includes preoxygenation, apneic oxygenation, rapid sequence intubation, induction and paralytic medications, video laryngoscopy, bougie use, waveform capnography, pulse oximetry, ventilation rates, tidal volume, PEEP, ventilator modes, alarm troubleshooting, sedation, post-intubation care, failed-airway management, and surgical airway considerations. Participants will also review how assessment findings guide airway-device selection, medication choices, ventilation strategies, requests for additional resources, transport priority, and communication with medical control, responding personnel, and receiving facilities throughout patient care. **Learning Objectives** At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to: * Perform an organized airway and respiratory assessment * Recognize respiratory distress, respiratory failure, and the need for advanced airway intervention * Select and perform appropriate oxygenation, ventilation, and advanced airway techniques * Confirm airway placement, manage ventilation, reassess the patient, and address complications **Completion Requirements** * Complete the full course * Pass the post-test with a score of 80% or higher * Complete the course evaluation **Certificate Information:** CAPCE credit
